Accounting for Love is here, and it’s FREE!

New and Improved and Oh, So Fun!

Jasmine is tired from writing so many western romance novelsAnd y’all love it! Poor Jasmine the Writing Cat has worked her little kitty cat paws to the bone, but it was worth every minute of it.

Just a few of the reviews so far:

I enjoyed the first version of this story but this remake is even better. Stetson and Jennifer come alive as characters and really draw you in. You can feel their emotions and really understand them.

~*~

Updated, revised and expanded which results in additional humor, deeper plot development, expanded scenes, change in pace, etc., all of which takes the best aspects of the original story and makes it just that much better!

~*~

This book is a rewrite of Erin Wright’s original Accounting For Love. I love her books and her writing skills have grown since she wrote the original version of this book. Doing this rewrite was a great opportunity to make Accounting For Love even better.

~*~

Will the ranch be saved? Will Stetson and Jennifer have a happily ever after? Can Carmelita be an even more awesome character?

~*~

Okay, so I included that last one only because it made me laugh. Carmelita is, by far, everyone’s favorite character (me included in that! ?) She’s a feisty spitball, and that only becomes more prevalent, not less, in the new version of Accounting.

I’ve had a few people ask me how Reagan (aka Handsome Hubby) was doing with me choosing to throw the original version out and rewrite it from scratch, since the original version was written by him (with some heavy-duty modifications from me). I was reading those comments out loud to him when he asked me, “Would you mind if I popped into your newsletter again?”

So, here’s Reagan’s letter to y’all on this topic; I haven’t changed a word of it. ? (I’m throwing in a cute pic of Handsome Hubby and Jasmine the Writing Cat together because #whynot?)

Jasmine the Writing Cat snuggled together with Handsome HubbyWell hello again, Erin Wright Fans,

Thank you for all of your well-wishes for a speedy recovery. I have to apologize, it looks like it is going to just be an average recovery. It is coming along, though – I am able to climb and descend stairs in a somewhat normal manner, which is always helpful.

The second topic I am going to touch on is Erin’s current project, the rewrite of Accounting for Love.

Most of you know that I actually worked with Erin to co-write the original book and some of you have asked why she chose to remake a book that a lot of people enjoyed. Many of you have also asked how I feel about this because she wrote the new book by herself.

The story of Accounting for Love starts, like these stories often do, with a nearly empty bank account. Erin was working diligently as a proofreader and editor for other authors and I was pounding out words as a ghostwriter. Then Amazon got bit by the Better Idea Fairy and changed everything. Her clientele put on the brakes as they tried to figure out what the latest round of restrictions would do to their respective genres. My clients basically did the same, and that meant that the money stopped as well.

We had been kicking around the idea of writing romance novels for ourselves rather than secretly for other people, and had been taking our time looking for a genre that appealed to both of us. We had been debating between small-town romance and western romance, since it’s a world both of us know in real life.

When the money started to dry up, I pitched an idea based on some of the farming families in the area from the late 80s and early 90s. We both had experience living in small towns but I had mostly grown up on my grandparent’s farm, ran a dairy farm for five years, and had been an agricultural news reporter, so I thought I could write accurately about the farming/ranching aspects.

So I went to work writing away. This was the first time I had written romance (I had been working in the political thrillers genre), and it was the first time I tried to complete a project of that size in a month.

It was, in many ways, a total failure, but that is how most first drafts go. One of the major critiques that Erin had of my first attempt was that there were too many technical details about farming. I had Stetson explaining the intricacies of crop rotations and nutritional programs for properly feeding cattle.

She was right, of course. If you are not actively involved in farming, this information only produces yawns.

Her second point was that we shouldn’t get too deep into dark subjects. It becomes very easy to make a character unredeemable if the background is too dark.

This was tough because I wanted Stetson to be having a harder time with his father’s death than what appears in the original book you have read. As you have read through the rest of her books, you’ve learned for yourselves that she doesn’t shy away from complicated, real-life situations in her books and you guys seem to appreciate that as well, but it takes true skill to pull this off – skill that I simply didn’t have. So we toned down this aspect of the storyline to suit the writing skills I was in possession of at the time.

The other major issue is that since Accounting for Love, Erin has written the Long Valley books all by her little lonesome, so my voice and writing style only appear in that first book, which made it a bumpy transition from it to the rest of the series.

Since then, we have learned a lot and felt like there was better story to tell with Stetson, Jennifer, and them together as a couple. It is a story that we have wanted to tell since the very beginning, and the only things that got in our way was our ignorance and fear.

Thank you so much for loving Jenifer, Stetson, and Carmelita. I really hope that you will love them even more when you read the full story, the way it should’ve been from the beginning.

cowboy western romance novel

To which I want to say, “Awwww…” Such a great husband. ❤ It isn’t easy to admit when your hard work isn’t up to par; ego tends to get in the way real quick. So I’m stupidly proud of my husband for cheering me on every step of the way in this rewrite process. Love ya, babe.

So, here’s the links to Accounting for Love, but before you run off to enjoy your new book, can I ask a favor of you? Can you help me spread the word on social media? I’d love to find new readers who will love the Long Valley world as much as you guys guys do, and after all, who doesn’t love a fun cowboy love story, right? So below is the link to all storefronts, plus a link to a very short video on FB and also some pretty graphics. Hitting like and share would mean a lot to me.

Okay, that’s it for me this week, but next week, I have some pretty awesome news that y’all will want to stay tuned for. Until then, go have yourself some Stetson time!

A Sneak Peek Inside Flames of Love

Turns out, y’all aren’t any more interesting than I am…

I’m not sure what that says about the group of us, to be honest. Nothing exciting, that’s for sure. ?

But based on the emails I got from y’all in the past week, you know how to par-tay on New Year’s Eve about as well as I do.

I’d be worried if I were you. ? Just sayin’…

Jasmine the Writing Cat sharing the recliner with ReaganOne of the requests I got a couple of times was a shot of Reagan and Jasmine the Healing Cat, snuggled up together on the new recliner I’d managed to heave-ho home. Well, truth is, Jasmine wasn’t quite sure what to make of this new recliner in her midst. She spent several days just smelling it (it didn’t smell like anything to me – yes, I checked – but then again, I obviously don’t have the finely tuned nose that Jasmine does) and then a couple more days trying to figure out how to get up on it. With her being cross-eyed, it always takes her a bit to maneuver around new things.

Like a giant life-sized puzzle that she has to unravel.

But in the end, she got up there, and Reagan and Jasmine the Healing Cat came to an agreement – she’d share the foot of the recliner with him. Because she is that nice. She’s since decided that she is willing to share the armrest, the seat, and the back of the chair also.

She may be a sweet, loving cat, but don’t be fooled – she is a cat. I don’t know why you’re here on this earth, but Reagan and I are here to pet and love on Jasmine. Just ask her.

In other news, I finally finished Flames of Love. Today. Like, ten minutes ago. Can you guys feel the joy and excitement radiating off me in waves? ‘Cause it’s totally there.

I should clarify: When I say “finish,” I really mean, “I got to the end of the story and now I have to start at the beginning and clean everything up.” So not finished-finished, but step-one-finished. Which is still pretty damn cool.

Speaking of starting at the beginning, I thought I’d share Chapter One with y’all today. The preorder and contest links are below the excerpt, and then you’ll find a new release by one of my closest writing friends, Tessa Layne. She’s amazeballs. Be sure to check her new book out.

Until next week, enjoy the (unedited) first chapter!

Chapter 1 – Jaxson

Flames of Love - A Western Romance Novel (Firefighters of Long Valley Book 1)

Jaxson Anderson pushed the plate-glass door open, the overhead bell tinkling, announcing his entrance. The warmth, the yeast and sugar smell…it rushed over him, surrounding him, and he almost stopped dead in his tracks, wanting to do nothing but breathe it all in. He hadn’t been in an honest-to-God bakery in ages, and had forgotten how damn delicious they smelled.

Before he could make a real ass out of himself by literally drooling just from the smell alone, though, a head popped up from behind the front counter. A cute brunette, her hair in a braid flopped over her shoulder, shot him a smile. “Welcome to the Muffin Man,” she called out, pushing some stray tendrils out of her face with the back of her hand. “You been in here before?”

He’d hardly been in the town of Sawyer more than a couple of hours. “Nope, first time here,” he said as he walked closer to the front display case, and the adorable brunette behind it. She looked a little younger than him, with wide, innocent eyes that made her appear even younger as she peered up at him.

She was this tiny little thing that he was sure he could tuck under his arm and run with down the football field. Between her tiny stature and her wide eyes, she gave off the impression that she was twelve.

Except…he gulped. Those curves. No 12-year-old girl had those curves.

“Well then, an extra welcome!” she said, sending him another dizzying smile. “I’m glad you stopped by. Are you a…tourist?” She looked a little puzzled at that idea, giving him a quick up-and-down glance.

No, he probably didn’t look a damn thing like a tourist. Most fire chiefs didn’t.

“Just new in town,” he told her. “What is good he–Sugar?!” he said. He was staring straight at her delectable chest.

Which was probably not his best move. He knew he was being rude, but hey, she was the one who’d pinned her name tag on it. “Your name is Sugar?!”

She rolled her eyes at him, which now that he was close enough, he could see they were a deep brown color. Like the color of the chocolate cake sitting in the display case between them. “Don’t bother making a joke,” she told him pertly. “I’ve heard every one of them that is funny, and a whole lot that aren’t. I promise you, you won’t be original.”

He leaned on the clear glass goodies counter, content for a moment to ignore the copious amounts of sugar underneath his arms, and instead focus on the Sugar in front of him. “So…basically, your parents hated you.”

“Pretty much!” she said cheerfully, shooting him a laughing grin. Right then, a guy came through the swinging doors from the back, and Jaxson nodded towards him.

“Is his name Flour?” he asked dryly.

“No, but I like how you think!” Sugar looked over at her co-worker and laughed. “Gage, he thinks you ought to change your name to Flour!”

Gage looked up from off-loading a batch of muffins into a side display case. “Hey, my parents didn’t hate me,” he drawled in a deep voice, proving that he’d overheard their discussion. “Don’t drag me into this.”

“I think I’m gonna start calling you Muffin,” Sugar mused, shooting her co-worker a grin. “Or maybe Baby Cakes.”

Gage rolled his eyes. “That’s just what this town needs to hear,” he grumbled and disappeared into the back, carrying his empty tray with him.

“Woke up on the wrong side of the bed,” Sugar said in way of explanation, complete with a shrug, as she turned back to Jaxson. “So, what can I get for you? Coffee? Donuts? A…muffin, perhaps?” Her voice was a little too innocent.

Jaxson’s eyes shot up to hers. Was she teasing?

Her eyes were glinting with mischief. She was.

“I was thinking that I might be in the mood for some baby cakes,” he said, his tone as innocent as hers. She burst out laughing.

“I think I like you,” she said, shooting him a wide grin after she caught her breath.

“You’d like me even more if I had some coffee and a donut in me,” he informed her. “I’m a lot more fun to be around when I’m awake.”

“Even more fun?” she echoed, wrinkling her nose as she turned to grab a to-go cup. “Damn. I’m not sure if I can handle that much fun. Maybe I shouldn’t get your coffee after all.”

“Never come between a man and his coffee,” he intoned, only three-quarters joking.

More like half, really.

“Fair enough,” she said, filling the cup from the dispenser. Tendrils of steam encircled her hand and then melted away. “So what brings you to Sawyer, if you’re not a tourist?”

She turned back around, deftly grabbing a lid and pushing it into place even as she was sliding the cup across the counter to him.

Yeah, she had some experience serving up coffee. He wondered for a moment how long she’d worked at the Muffin Man.

“I’m the new fire chief in town,” he said, pulling the already warm cup towards him to sip at the life-giving liquid inside. He was staring down at the display case as he said it, contemplating which donut was the most deserving of being eaten, but even out of the corner of his eye, he could tell she’d stiffened up. His eyes shot up and caught her look. She was staring at him, mouth open. “What’s wrong?” he asked, confused. He looked behind him, thinking maybe someone had snuck up behind him who she didn’t care for, but no one was there.

He looked back at Sugar and she was smiling again, although it didn’t appear nearly as natural as it had before.

“Nothing,” she said. She cleared her throat. “What kind of donut did you want?”

“Maple bar, please.”

She nodded, slipping the long, golden donut into a brown paper bag.

“Hold on,” he said, another sip of coffee helping his brain begin to actually do something useful, “why don’t you make that a dozen donuts? I’m meeting with the guys down at the station for the first time this morning – holding a little get-together, you know? I should probably bring donuts with me. Help break the ice.”

She mumbled something under her breath that sounded suspiciously like, “You’re gonna need more than donuts,” but when he shot her a questioning look, she just smiled back innocently.

“Do you care which kind?” she asked.

“Variety,” he said, shrugging.

She got to work, sliding some bear claws, a cake donut, some more maple bars, and a couple of sugar donuts into a cardboard box stamped “Muffin Man” on top. She rang him up quickly and after he slid his card into the machine, entering his PIN, she pushed the box across the counter to him.

“Good luck today,” she said, sending him an overly brilliant smile. She followed it up by mumbling something else under her breath, and this time, he only caught the word “need.”

“What?” he asked, irritated.

“Nothing! Enjoy your donuts, sir.”

“Jaxson.”

“What?”

“I figured I knew your name; you should know mine. Jaxson. Plus, I’m too damn young to be called sir.”

“Enjoy your donuts…Jaxson.”

He slid them onto his arm and balanced his coffee cup in his other hand, making his way back towards the door. If every damn person in Sawyer was gonna take up mumbling underneath their breath when they were talking to him, he was gonna be stark-raving mad within the week.

A Free Book and a Thank-You Note – 12/20/17

A Note of Thanks

Last week, I told y’all that my husband’s knee had been cut into, in an attempt to fix some knee problems that he’s had since he was a small child. I won’t lie; it’s been a rough week. He’s still in a lot of pain, and it might end up interfering with our Christmas plans. Not the best way to spend our Christmas, that’s for sure.

But anyway, I was sitting here, writing away in Flames of Love, when Reagan tells me that he wants me to check my email. Hmmm…okay. Weird, but all right.

What I found is below. I didn’t proofread it or change one word of it. I did, however, cry when I read it.

Here’s an adorable picture of Jasmine the Healing Cat snuggling up to Handsome Hubby that I took this morning, to accompany the note:

Jasmine the Healing Cat with Reagan Wright

Dear Faithful and Enthusiastic Erin Wright Reader,

I am breaking into this newsletter for just a moment to introduce myself and to say thank you.

I am Reagan or as some of you might know “Mr. Erin”. Whilst I don’t normally interject myself into her newsletter Erin has been telling you about my recent knee surgery. I am sure it is mostly because she needs someone to vent to. Thank you for being her shoulder.

She has also read to me some of the wonderfully thoughtful responses many of you have sent wishing me well and advising Erin on how to keep her sanity while playing Florence Nightingale. My personal favorite was the reader email that said “either he needs to take the heavy-duty medication or you do to get through this,” (or something to that effect). Truly sage advice that rings of real-life experience.

Each and every one of you that has taken the time to email have been so gracious and caring about wishing me well and supporting Erin that I had to break in here and say thank you.

Recently our mailbox started filling up with Christmas cards, hand written and some even hand-crafted. I can tell you that it means so much to her. But, I wanted to share a husband-secret. The kind of support y’all show through emails, cards, leaving ARC reviews and buying her books means a lot to me too. Here is why; I think my wife is insanely talented. She is funny, caring and has a good grasp on English grammar, all of which she pours into her books. I try to tell her how wonderful she is but sometimes that message need reenforcing from outside. She will give me that look that plainly says “You have to say that, you’re married to me,” but when you guys back me up it makes the affirmation real.

Thank you for helping me out.

Again thank you for the well-wishes, great advice and support

Happy Holidays

Reagan

~*~

Did I mention that I cried when I read his letter? I just teared up a little again just now, rereading it, just as I’ve been tearing up as I’ve read through the Christmas letters that I’ve received from y’all. It really does mean so much to me.

Okay, enough weepy emotions for now. Last week, I told y’all about a giveaway I was running on Facebook, where you could win a set of hand-forged metal icicles and two copies of the Blizzard of Love, just by sharing a post and also telling me what you’d do with the second copy of Blizzard. I’m happy to report that Nancy L won and has already given me her mailing address. Enjoy the package, Nancy!

Now for a free book! ?  My good friend, J.H. Croix, has written a real winner, set up in Alaska. Her book is free on ALL storefronts, so no matter which ereader you use, you’ll be able to find a link below to download it. I really hope you enjoy the book. ❤️

Jasmine the Healing Cat – 12/15/17

It’s Not Wednesday

I’m pointing that out because lately (re: the last couple of weeks), I’ve been horrific about actually sending my email out on Wednesday like I’m supposed to. Like I told you guys I would.

Well, it turns out that I had a good reason this time. I mean, I always have a good reason, but this week, I have an especially good reason: My husband had knee surgery on Wednesday morning. And when I say “morning,” I mean we had to be at the surgery center at 6:15 in the morning.

I should confess something to y’all right now: I hate alarm clocks. Like, hate. I wake up repeatedly throughout the night whenever I have an alarm set, worried that I slept through the alarm or it didn’t go off or [insert catastrophe here] and I’m going to be late and OH GOOODDDDDD!! and then I open up my eyeball (just one) far enough to see that it’s 2:13 in the morning and I can go back to sleep now.

Lather, rinse, repeat about six times.

So having my husband’s surgery at 6:15 in the morning, in a town about 30 minutes away…I wasn’t sure I was gonna live through just that.

Then came the really fun part: He’s home now, and can do almost nothing without my help. Well, he’s mastered changing the channel on the TV, and drinking lots of coffee (which means lots of laborious trips to the bathroom) but he’s otherwise incapacitated.

Jasmine the Healing Cat snuggled against Handsome Hubby

I don’t mean to make my husband’s surgery all about me; after all, it was his knee that was drilled into, not mine. I’m just telling you why I’m two days late on my newsletter this week. ?

Jasmine being Jasmine, she has, of course, taken her snuggling duties Very Seriously. Handsome Hubby has taken up permanent residence on the couch in the living room, and Jasmine the Healing Cat has taken up permanent residence on him. In his arms, snuggled against his legs, on his chest…wherever she can give him the maximum amount of love. She has her job, and she’s going to do it, dammit!

When I got up this morning, she was snuggled down into the crook of his arm and they were both fast asleep. I took out my phone to snap what was going to be the Most Adorable Picture Ever, when I dropped said phone and woke them both up. So you just get Pretty Cute Picture instead. #sorry

So while I’m busy running errands and fetching more refills on coffee, I thought y’all would enjoy two things this week: A great deal on a book, and a super fun giveaway that I am doing on Facebook. Be sure not to miss either one.

Hungry Cowboy by Charlize Starr

sexy cowboy contemporary romance

A good girl. A bad cowboy. A dirty secret. Ready to figure this one out?

She used to be like my little sister.
Now her curves make me choke on my beer.

I’ll make it up to her though.
I’ll offer her a job.
To be the live-in nanny at my ranch.
I’ll win her for me with my cowboy abs.
Seriously, who can resist those?
She’ll be screaming for more before she knows it.
All I need to do is keep my secret from her.
Or she’ll leave.

And I want her to stay.

This is a 97-page billionaire romance with a single dad and an innocent girl. It is a stand-alone story with an HEA, so no cliffhangers! Be prepared for panty-melting talk and lots of steam. Most definitely for 18+ readers.

Jasmine the Writing Cat staring intently at me

Whenever Jasmine the Writing Cat does this stare thing straight at me, I always imagine her saying, “You will love meeeeee…” in a hypnotic voice, while swishing her tail slowly.

I’m pretty sure I was hypnotized a long time ago.

ANYway, I don’t know about you guys, but damn, it’s become windy here! It’s always this way in the fall – Idaho decides in the spring and fall that tear-the-shingles-off-your-house winds are just the way to celebrate a new season arriving. I’m not sure if I agree with this viewpoint, but I’ve tried holding up my hand to stave off the wind, and thus far, have had no luck. I’ll keep you guys posted on that front.

In the meanwhile, I’ve been hard at work on several different projects, and I can even tell you guys about a couple of them today! How is that for thrilling?

First, let’s discuss the featured bundle for the week – Laughing P Collection by Kari Holloway. It’s three novels plus some short stories, all on sale for only $4.99, which is a hell of a good deal. Check out the deets:

Next up? Gift cards! Everyone likes being a winner. ?

I’ve been linking to a survey on SurveyMonkey for the past month, encouraging people to give me their thoughts on a variety of topics. I have been drawing people from that survey as winners, and announcing them in my newsletter.

Here’s the bad news: The last three people that I chose and announced as winners in my newsletter haven’t bothered to open my emails to find out that they’d won. So! Don’t be that person. ?  If I say I’m only going to announce winners in my emails so you have to read ’em to find out if you’re the lucky duck for that week, I really mean it! ?

So here’s my gift card winners for this week – you’ve each won a $10 gift card to the storefront of your choice, if you respond back to my newsletter to claim your prize. Here goes:

[Name redacted]

[Name redacted]

[Name redacted]

Hit reply to the email in your inbox, and tell me which storefront you want your gift card for, and which country you live in (because that will sometimes play a part in the gift card process).

So you know how I said I’ve been hard at work on some projects? Here’s one of them. You guys are gonna go crazy over this.

My friend Joanna Bell and I have gotten together to do a wild-ass giveaway, only available to our subscribers. You won’t find this giveaway on Facebook or Twitter or anywhere else, and you can’t get extra chances to win by sharing it, because it’s exclusive only to our readers.

The prizes? Chanel perfume with gold flecks in it or a Coach wallet.

Insane, right? When Joanna suggested that we give these items away, I may or may not have swooned a little.

Again, the deets for this giveaway are only available in my newsletter, so if you haven’t subscribed yet, do it today! It’s where all the fun is. ?

Soaking up the last of summer – 9/27/17

Jasmine the Writing Cat soaking up the sunshine

As Jasmine and I were working to wrap up our next novel, Returning for Love, she decided to take a well-deserved nap in the sun. I don’t know about your part of the world, but here, it’s getting colder by the day, and the sun is sinking lower in the sky.

That’s okay, though – that just means that it’s time to snuggle up to a good book (*ahem* pick me, pick me!) and enjoy the great outdoors, without stepping foot outside. ?

Speaking of going outside…Handsome Hubby and I had to cancel our plans to go to Long Valley this fall. We were supposed to go to Glacier, then we changed it to Long Valley, and now…we’re staying here. ?

This all has to do with Big Life Changes that are coming up, but alas, I am not going to tell you yet what those changes are. Don’t worry – they will only positively impact my writing speed, and even my ability to interact with y’all. So these are GOOD changes, even if I can’t reveal them right now. I would, but then I’d have to kill you, and that just wouldn’t be any fun, right? Right.

In the meanwhile, I decided to do another survey. It’s been a while since I’ve done one, and I thought it’d be awesome to do another one. I’m interested in the reading habits of you, but I don’t know what they are unless you tell me!

Same as last time – this is a simple survey, and if you want to whiz right through it, you can be done in five minutes or less. There are places to leave comments on each question, however, so if you have more you want to tell me, you’re absolutely welcome to!

At the end of the survey, there is a place to put your name, email address, and country (that one is just because I’m interested – it has nothing to do with the gift card itself. ?) The last question is COMPLETELY optional, but if you do fill it out, then you’ll have a chance to win a $5 giftcard to the eBookstore of your choice: B&N, iTunes, Amazon, Kobo, or GooglePlay.

I will draw one winner a week for the next month, so even if I don’t draw your name next week, keep checking back! I will be announcing the winners in my newsletter. ?

Before I let you go for the week, I just wanted to send along a recommendation for a new swexy Western Romance author that I think y’all will just love: Joanna Bell. Joanna is a great author and human being, and I think she’s really going to go places. Right now, she’s only available on Amazon, but if she ever publishes on other storefronts, I’ll be sure to let you know.

For now, I hope you’ll enjoy her debut novel, How to Catch a Cowboy:

How to Catch a Cowboy by Joanna Bell

contemporary western romance novel

A Rugged Cowboy with a Promise to Keep

Jack McMurtry
Seven generations. That’s how long the McMurtry’s have worked Sweetgrass Ranch. My days start before dawn and end long after dusk. I care for the land, the cattle and the horses.

The last thing I need is a woman around. Sure, I’d like one to warm my bed, but with everything that needs doing, I’d want her gone by daybreak.

What don’t I need? A city-girl prissing around my family’s homestead. Especially a woman that works for the government and says I owe Uncle Sam a fortune. Nope. I don’t need her around even if she is as pretty and curvy and sassy as the day is long.

Trouble is, I can’t get Blaze out of my mind. And if that’s not bad enough, I’m sure she’s hiding something from me.

A secret that I’ll do whatever it takes to uncover.

A City Girl Far from Home

Blaze Wilson
I’m on my first assignment, determined to wow my supervisors at the IRS. My career is on the line. All I need to do is pull off this one, single case in the middle of Nowhere, Montana. How hard can it be? What I didn’t count on was going toe-to-toe with a tall, rugged and sexy cowboy. None other than the owner of the ranch.

Guess what? He’s not cooperating. At all.

What is he doing? All the wrong things. Undressing me with his bedroom eyes and then coming across all knight-in-shining-armor when I get caught in a violent thunderstorm.

I need to be careful. As perfect as he seems, Jack McMurtry could wreck my career. And as if that’s not bad enough, I stumble across a long-buried McMurtry Family secret.

A secret that could cost me everything…

How To Catch A Cowboy is a full-length (107k) standalone novel with a guaranteed HEA, no cliffhangers and no cheating. It is intended for readers over 18.

Wright’s Wednesday Recs – 4/05/17

Jasmine the Writing CatSo I've been slow in responding to emails lately because...

DREADED TAX TIME.

*scream*

As you can see, Jasmine is helping me, as always. She's right here, helping me sort through credit card statements with ease and finesse, cutting my working time on this project down to...well, 40 hours so far. *crying*

But on a serious note, have you ever noticed how, in many of my Jasmine pics, you can see my bathrobe in the picture? That blue plaid thing you see? Yeah, that's my ratty-tatty-but-super-comfy bathrobe.

Yup, I've outed myself – I apparently spend most of my day in my bathrobe, or at least it seems so if you look at my Jasmine the Writing (Taxes) Cat pictures. I'm not entirely sure what that says about me, other than I can be *ahem* slow to get dressed on some occasions. *cough* every morning *cough, cough*

*ahem* Coughing fit under control now, promise.

Other than the nightmare that is US small business taxes, I've also been hard at work on the freebie novella, Stampede of Love. Ladies and gents, you will be thrilled to know that the big release date is next Wednesday, the 12th of April. The novella is in the capable hands of a few readers, helping me clean it up, and so by time you get your hands on it, it should be as awesome as can be. I am super excited about that! 😀

Remember, this is going to be a newsletter-exclusive novella, so the one and only way to get your hands on it is to listen to me ramble on each week. Which is why I want it to be as amazing as can be, because if it isn't amazing, then what kind of incentive is that?? If I'm going to give away a bribe, it needs to be an awesome-sauce one.

In the meanwhile, here's my two recs for the week. The first one (Elaina Jadin) is a really close friend of mine who will be releasing a romantic comedy soon. (So excited for this book release, can I just tell you??) The link below allows you to read the first nine chapters of that amazing novel for free, and you'll also be notified you when the book itself hits the shelves. The second rec for the week (Liz Isaacson) is for a Christian Western Romance - on sale for only $0.99, and available on all storefronts.

With that, enjoy!

Crazy Perfect Mess by Elaina Jadin

Crazy Perfect Mess by Elaina JadinKATE

When free-spirited Kate walked in on her boyfriend playing naked Twister with another woman—her unscrupulous cousin, no less—she decided it was time to take a sabbatical from dating. A decade or so should be about right.

Now she’s crashing on her BFF’s couch, throwing herself into a three-ring circus of temp jobs, and trying to expertly avoid her dysfunctional family, who put the ass in passive aggressive. All Kate wants to do is get her life back on track, instead of wasting time with the opposite sex, and she has a foolproof plan:

1) No distractions
2) No complicated situations
3) Absolutely no men

Too bad she just woke up in bed with all three.

HENRI

Level-headed and loyal, Henri was happily pursing an art degree and looking for his soulmate, until his dad’s illness changed everything. Determined to help out, he set aside his dreams to take a more practical path. Along the way, he picked up a soul-sucking career and a demanding fiancée with dubious motives.

But that’s okay—he’ll do whatever it takes to keep a roof over the heads of the people he loves most in the world: his family. With so much on the line, Henri has a short list of must-do priorities:

1) Keep his commitments
2) Stay focused on his job
3) Don’t let anyone down

Definitely not on the list: falling for Kate.

In this funny and poignant book, Kate and Henri are forced to ask themselves: Is it possible to find happiness when everything you touch becomes a disaster? Is love still worth it, even when it’s this complicated?

Before the Leap by Liz Isaacson

Before the Leap by Liz Isaacson

Can Jace find a way to forgive before it's too late?

Jace Lovell only has one thing left after his fiancé abandons him at the altar: his job at Horseshoe Home Ranch. He throws himself into becoming the best foreman the ranch has ever had—and that includes hiring an interior designer to make the ranch owner's wife happy.

Belle Edmunds is back in Gold Valley after she lost her job at a prestigious design firm in California. She's working for a conglomerate, but she's desperate to build a portfolio that she can use to start her own firm in Montana. She applies for the job at Horseshoe Home, and though Jace and Belle grew up together, they've never seen eye to eye on much more than the sky is blue.

The spark between them now that they're adults can't be denied, and as Jace and Belle attempt to work together, they also fight their growing attraction to each other. But Jace isn't anywhere near forgiving his fiancé, and he's not sure he's ready for a new relationship with someone as fiery and beautiful as Belle. Can she employ her patience while he figures out how to forgive so they can find their own brand of happily-ever-after?

New Novella is Almost Here

Erin Wright's catSo I know I just launched a new novella 2.5 weeks ago so it's a little crazy to be this close to releasing another one, but there for a while, I was working on two novellas at the same time. All while providing a sufficient number of cuddling hours with Jasmine the Writing Cat.

An impossible task, I know.

But after I finish my round of edits on Stampede of Love, I'll be sending it off to the editors, and then...to you! I can't wait to hear what y'all think of it.

Just as a quick reminder: Stampede of Love will be completely free. It's a thank-you gift for hanging out with me every week ('cause let's face it - I'm not above bribing people to be my friend! :D) Here's the blurb for it, in all its blurbtastic glory:

Stampede of Love by Erin WrightEight seconds.

That’s all Rex Kingsley wants. Eight seconds on the back of Bodacious, the most feared bull in the PBR. Two years ago, the massive bull threw him and stomped him into the sands of the Tulsa Rodeo in front of ten thousand spectators. Rex survived. Barely. Now his single goal is to conquer the bull touted as “unbeatable.”  Not a single bull rider has lasted eight seconds on Bodacious’ back. Rex aims to be the first, and his lofty ambition leaves no room in his life for a woman.

Until Kimber.

Kimber Adams just wants to celebrate her birthday with friends. A few drinks. Maybe a spin on the dance floor. But when she falls into Rex’s arms, literally, her plans change. She and Rex share a night of passion but the handsome cowboy wants more. Kimber’s no stranger to the perils of bull riding, though. She makes it clear that Rex needs to choose between eight seconds on Bodacious or a lifetime with her.

Their love is young and fragile. Can it survive the dangers of a rodeo cowboy’s life?

I KNOW, RIGHT?!

Confession: I don't write my own blurbs. I don't know if you've noticed this (surely not) but I tend to...blather on a bit much. You can't blather on in blurbs. Blurbs from me would read something like, "You'll like this book, I promise, and so you should read it, and there's people in it and they fall in love and oh, there's a bull named Bodacious and he's a badass who can't be ridden and..."

I don't write blurbs.

So when my blurb writer returned the above blurb to me, my response was (and I quote), "OH MY GOSH, I LOVE IT, I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK NOW!"

So, there ya go. A little peek into the life of a writer. I don't write my own blurbs, and I don't edit my own books, and I don't make my own covers. Believe me, it's for the best. Covers made by me would consist of two stick figures holding hands. I have all the artistic abilities of a blind two year old.

Now that we're done drooling over the blurb for Stampede of Love, I figure it's about time to announce another winner from my survey. Remember, you can fill it out at any time; I draw a winner every other week or so. (Basically, whenever I remember to do it, let's be honest here). But, a big congratulations to Stacey in Illinois - be sure to check your inbox for the $5 gift card winging your way. 🙂

That's it from me this week; here's new releases from two amazing small-town author friends of mine. Enjoy!

Tempt Me by Christine Kingsley

Tempt Me by Christine Kingsley

Welcome to Sunset Bay, where the days are hot and the nights even hotter...

Katrina Caldwell is finally making her own way living and working at tropical Sunset Bay Beach Resort. Her independence was hard won, and she’s determined to make the most of every day. But she has a little problem. Her boss Brandon Jacobs is hotter than hot, and lately she can’t seem to focus when he’s around. It’s a mistake to fall for him — he's made it clear that he's all business. Besides, she’s all about that laid back, easy beach life. Who needs a man? But she can’t deny that every time she's near him, the temptation gets a little bit harder to resist.

Brandon doesn't have time for dating. Every bit of energy he has goes into the resort he's working hard to keep afloat, and Kat is a temptation he just can't indulge — even if he can't get her off his mind. For one, she’s his employee. She might as well wear a flashing sign that screams off limits. Two, he can’t afford any distractions — and a sexy little yoga instructor is about as distracting as it gets.

When Kat presents Brandon with a deal — she’ll help him get his resort on track if he’ll let her show him there’s more to life than work — hard days in the office turn into late nights on the town. Can they fight the temptation that keeps pulling them back together? Or will they see how good it can be to be oh-so-bad?

Security Risk by Megan Matthews

Security Risk by Megan Matthews

Ridge Jefferson, former Navy SEAL and current Fugitive Recovery Specialist, is exactly what I don’t need. I shouldn’t get hot and bothered by his all-around tough-guy image. I shouldn’t crave his thick, muscled arms. I definitely shouldn’t stare at his ass every time he walks out of a room. But I do.

And with him next door, and two new wild best friends down the road, I’m on my way to making a perfect life in this small town on the coast of Maine.

Until my past decides it wants me dead.

Naughty ‘N Nice

Erin Wright's wonderful snuggle buddyAfter many hours of snuggling...

Jasmine the Writing Cat finally got Overdue for Love out the door. It's hard work to type when you only have paws, you know.

But as part of the launch of Overdue for Love, I released two versions - a sweet version and a swexy version. I had some questions from readers about this, so I thought I should share with everyone what I did and what I plan on doing in the future:

First off, "swexy" is a word I made up. Feel free to use it yourself in everyday conversation. "Hey, that's a swexy dress!" or "Oh, swexy cologne!" It can't become a "thing" until everyone uses it, you know. 😉 Just remember - when you hear Oprah saying swexy on her show, it all started here. 😀

For those of you who missed it, swexy = sweet + sexy. On a heat scale of 1 - 5, a swexy story is around a 3, taking into consideration both sex scenes and swear words. A 5 on the scale would include things like menage or F-bombs, something you will never find in my novels. Ever. There are people who write and people who read it and that's 100% a-okay in my book. I'll even promo it in my newsletter (although I'll warn y'all about it before I do) because many of you guys love it (I know because you told me so!)

But it's not what I write. I am a swexy writer, through and through. When I write a novel, I write swexy first. It's what I like to read, it's what I like to write. The one exception is Christmas novellas. Blizzard of Love was a Christmas novella and it was pretty sweet (a few kisses, no sexy times, some swearing). Sweet just feels right for Christmas stories, know what I mean?

But those aside, you can always count on me to write and release swexy stories. Period.

However, some readers don't like any swearing or sexy times, and so they're interested in sweet only. I get that. That's my mother (Hi, Mom!) So for the sweet readers on my list, including my very own mother, I tried releasing a sweet version of Overdue for Love.

It was...an interesting experiment. I'll give you percentages of sales of sweet vs swexy on the various storefronts that I publish on:

  • Amazon: Sweet = 9% Swexy = 91%
  • B&N: Sweet = 20% Swexy = 80%
  • Kobo: Sweet = 0% Swexy = 100%
  • iTunes: Sweet = 0% Swexy = 100%
  • GooglePlay: Sweet = 0% Swexy = 100%
  • Smashwords: Sweet = 0% Swexy = 100%

Sooooooo...there's a definite preference going on here. 😀 lol. (Sorry, Mom!)

Some things to keep in mind when you look at those numbers:

1) I didn't put the sweet version of Overdue for Love on preorder on all storefronts like I did the swexy version.

2) I have had some promos for the swexy version of Overdue, whereas my sweet version hasn't had the promos hit yet (they're coming in the next couple of weeks).

So, is this really a fair comparison? No.

Will sweet ever sell as well as swexy? No.

Will I continue to put out two versions of my stories? Probably. At least for now.

I plan on going back and putting together a sweet version of Accounting for Love (I'll be sure to tell you when I do that) and the next couple of books will come out with both versions. Then I will rerun the numbers, see if it's worth it to continue, and decide from there. When I make that decision, I'll be sure to let y'all know.

If you're one of the people who have emailed me and begged for a sweet version of my novels, now is the time to support that. I need to keep the lights on and the rent paid, so if you're buying and recommending my sweet novels to your friends and family, it makes it a lot easier to continue producing the sweet version. That's just a fact of life. 🙂

So with that in mind, here's my two author recommendations for the week, and...well, you really couldn't find a better example of sweet vs sexy. The sweet novel is very, very sweet (Christian romance) and the sexy novel is very, very sexy (a definite 5 on the 1 - 5 scale). Choose accordingly!

Oh, and if you want to catch up with me on Facebook, be sure to stop on over on my new page and say hi. Or feel free to send me an email. I respond to all emails (eventually. I'm about a week behind right now. *Aack!*) But please tell me your thoughts - I want to hear 'em.

Love and hugs to all,

Erin

PS I'll be choosing another $5 gift card winner from the people who've answered my survey, so if you haven't done it yet, pop on over there and tell me your thoughts. I choose a new winner from those surveys roughly every other week or so, so your chances of winning are pretty darn good!

Saved by the Woodsman by Eddie Cleveland

Steamy western romance authorI turned my back on society, walked off the grid and never looked back. So, why can't I let her go?

Sawyer:

Ashley represents everything I hate in society.

A spoiled brat, a media princess, a woman who would rather record her life than live it.

It’s people like her that are responsible for the bullshit on the internet, bullshit that cost the lives of everyone I’ve ever loved.

But one taste of her makes me question how I could ever live in a world without her in it.

Ashley:

Sawyer offers me nothing more than a hard body and a warm bed.

He’s just an escape from my humiliation and betrayal. He can never provide me the lifestyle that I worked so hard to obtain.

Then why am I considering throwing away my fame and fans to hide away from the world that embraced me when no one else would?
