Intermediate Class (Part 1) on Being a Successful Wide Author

Erin Wright – contemporary western romance author Hello and welcome to the home of all the deets on my Intermediate Class (Part 1)!

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Erin Wright 👋 and I am a full-time contemporary western romance author. I started writing in 2016, and went Wide in 2017. By March of 2019, I’d convinced Suzie O’Connell to start Wide for the Win Facebook group with me, and by December of 2020, I’d started teaching classes one-on-one with Widelings, hoping to help people become successful Wide authors themselves.

But almost from the jump, I found that my consultation calendar was booked out anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months, and teaching authors the foundational aspects of being a Wide author one by one by one was not the most efficient use of my time.

So, I started a series of Wide classes, structured so I can reach a wide swath of authors at once, bringing them all up to the next level.

Then, when I do a one-on-one with an author, we’ll be able to focus specifically on their catalog and what strategy they should put into place, vs general (but very helpful) information that they need to put into place at the beginning before any other information is really that useful.

For my Intermediate Class (Part 1), these are the topics we’re going to be covering:

  • How searches work across platforms (demonstrated in real time)
  • What you (probably) didn’t know about Kobo Plus
  • In-house promos on Apple, Kobo, and BN, both for released books and preorders
  • Promotions tab on GP to boost in-house sales + GP optimization tips
  • Overdrive promos (whether you get to them through Kobo or D2D)
  • Pricing your ebooks for libraries (a handy-dandy rule of thumb)

Just FYI, Part 2 will be getting into permafrees, newsletter magnets, multi-author boxsets, and more. I will finish this round of Part 1 before moving onto Part 2. If you don’t feel you would benefit from Part 1 but would like to take Part 2 when it opens up, that is perfectly fine. However, I will not be recapping info from any previous classes (or answering questions on these topics!), so be sure you know this info inside and out.

If you’re ready to sign up for a class, here are the current dates available; check out the FAQ below for the times that each of these classes are going to be offered:

  • June 2nd sign-up form (This is an “early” class and thus is a good fit for many in the UK and Europe; this is being held on a Friday)
  • June 6th sign-up form (This is a “late” class and thus is a good fit for many in Australia and New Zealand; this is being held on a Tuesday)
